Basically I also use a white wrist slate, point the camera at it when I get to the required depth and away you go.
With some cameras it is possible to set these as Custom WB settings, OLY 5050 for eg. so that you can use them for later. I did this for 20m, 10m for a trial to see how it worked. More hit and miss on that though. Only way to guarantee is to set in the conditions you are in. So take the slate and the stick from your buddies!!!!
