The second of each these uses the technique above using the Lab mode.
I've opened the RAW's auto levels in RGB - convert to Lab and moved the curves, convert back to RGB and resize, unsharp mask and save as jpg. The first of each is different in that the curves were tweaked in RGB.
Quite a difference.
