BUIF competition

I have been looking at the BUIF competition rules.

Has anyone entered this before?

Can you enter the Open category as well as the Compact category?

So many questions, sorry.

There is no mention of post-processing, is it allowed? They ask for the photos to be printed, so they couldn't even check if you did.

Some of this years winners look good, I am looking at entering some pictures in the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Category. Stating British waters, whether or not this will count.

I notice the Open winning photo was taken in a pool!!! And the Young photographer winner was not taken in the UK. Cheating I reckon.

Hi Mark,

I think that open really means anything goes - there're no constraints.

If you enter you'll have to let us know how you get on.

Cheers,

Tim

Well I entered BUIF and had the following picture displayed at the NEC all weekend:

I cropped it in the end, so it became a portrait, making the Pike bigger and the reeds on the left disappeared.

Others from Digigreen and EMUP did very well. Rob Bailey had a really good photo of a Wolf Eel in B/W on display, Trevor Rees had several up, one was commended and I think he got a third in the Compact category (really good shot of a hermit crab), but in the end all the glory went to Charles Erb, he came second in the portfolio category with 6 monochrome images from the UK (they all had a low-key appearance - think that's the right term) and he also scopped the Best of British (which apparently was a close run thing between Charles and Trevor). Simon Spear also won one of the video categories for a double bill of Porbeagles and his rubble film.

The standard of the entires was amazing and there was some really interesting stuff on display.

I'm just dead chuffed that one of my shots got displayed amongst such a very impressive set. It was also nice to get the opportunity to get feedback from Alex Mustard.

Congratulations to all of the winners,
Rob

[just noticed I tagged this onto a really old thread, thought it was more recent]
