One day I'll have the money and the courage to take in my DSLR....

Don't forget any time you fancy coming down to west Wales just give me a shout! I don't need much of an excuse to go diving with the camera these days, even if it means just sitting on a rock until I get one decent picture.
I won't i have a few trips over the few months but apart from that my diving calendar is pretty sparse.

Hi Whacky,

I'd suspect a little hair in the oring which would have caused a leak. I would also have suspected that a dunk in a bucket would have revealed any leaks - thats why I always do a quick leak test before dives (I didn't do this when I've later found a leak). Jumping into the pool sounds like a good idea.

Keep us posted on how you get on.

Tim

Whacky,
When I flooded my Olympus C4000 I assumed user error. What really pi$$ed me off was it was a warm-up dive before going to Mozambique and South Africa (I borrowed a mates camera, but it was rubbish).

Anyway, there was no sign of what caused the leak. After my trip I submerged the housing in a big black bin for quite a few days with no problems. I then dived with it in Stoney Cove to 35m for one dive and then for 40 minutes at 20m on a second dive. No leak, not even after pressing anything. This gave me confidence to re-sell the housing as it looked like user-error.

There are plenty of possible causes; as Tim says a tiny hair is likely. In salt water a build up of salt could have been responsible, this would have a delayed leak, as might too much o-ring grease.

Sadly you may never know why it leaked.
Rob

PS Can Alan James do a pressure test?

I had the housing in the pool yesterday and there seems to be a little leak from the shutter release button but in two hours it only let a tiny drop of water in so i am confused to say the least.

At least the evidence suggests it wasn't "User Error"! Depending on the construction, I'd be tempted to take the control apart and see if a simple o-ring grease will solve the problem. If it's a simple o-ring you could get a replacement as there are companies that sell nothing but o-rings. I know of one local to me, there must be one in Bristol.

Fix it, sell it, use the cash towards something for the DSLR?
