Olympus c-7070 help :)

Hi Shane,
Each RAW File from Your 7070 will be over 10mb.
If your away for a week with No remote storage.
I would settle for HQ or SHQ,

Cheers,
Paul.

Olympus c-7070 help :)

Shane,
Now my settings have been made for good old UK diving, but should give you a pointer for Red Sea. With my 7070 I have 3 "My Modes", which I use as a starter - these are listed in order they appear in camera menu with some missed out that are just default:

My Mode 1: Macro with flash:
ISO 80; Forced flash; Macro; ESP = box filled in white; Noise reduction on; WB Auto; saturation +2; Aperture priority (for sync with strobe)

My Mode 2:Wide angle with external strobe:
ISO 80; Forced flash; AF; ESP = box filled in white; Noise reduction on; WB Auto (but for balanced light I sometimes use WB set at depth); saturation +2; Aperture priority (for sync with strobe)

My Mode 3: Natural light wide angle:
ISO 200; NO flash; AF; ESP = box filled in white; Noise reduction on; WB set at depth (you've got a filter so this not necessary); saturation +2; Shutter priority (1/30th or 1/60th)

I'm not saying I've got it right, but these modes seem the best starting points for the different types of photos. I am using an external strobe.

I now always shoot RAW, one advantage is that for some of the settings I've listed you can over-ride when processing. As Paul says though, for a holiday if you don't have an external hard-drive device (~£100) or a laptop then stick to SHQ. I have stayed in hotels in the past that allowed me to download my photos and burn to CD. Microdrives can have pretty high capacities, but have disadvantages.

Hope that helps,
Rob

Never tried them as I always dive in UK. They may be of use in the Red Sea, but personally now that I think I know a little I would be tempted just to setup my own MyModes. Most things auto are bad, but give them a try and report back what you find.

Olympus c-7070 help :)

Hi ,
I use the u/water wide mode quite a bit but not sure if it makes any difference.

I agree with Rob the auto settings aren`t much good.
I use mainly manual focus super macro and when I get it right the results are good but doesn`t happen very often.

I think I should have bought a 5050 instead.

Good luck.
