Thumbs up IPOD Video Connector

I got a 80Gig Video IPOD for Christmas (must have been a very good boy last year ) I have loaded it up with loads of stuff but noticed the IPOD camera connector whilst shopping. I thought it looked interesting so I looked into it and my camera ( Olympus SP350) was not on the supported camera list but did use USB 2.0 PTP protocol so I bought it on the off chance. I know a few people on this forum have this Camera so I thought I would let you know it works a treat. Tranfaring from Camera and then on to computer no problems. A great bit of kit. Now I can store all my shots whilst on away it also acts as a good back up.

EDIT: Just tried it with the Cannon EOS 300D as well and that too works well.

Nice one Lee. How quickly do the files transfer? My experience of devices that attach to cameras in this way is that the transfers are exceedingly slow.

Oh dear... He's been gone 33 hours so far and still no response! It doesn't look good!

I was thinking about one of these earlier today too... Just wondered whether it only worked with JPGs or whether it would work with RAW too?

If not are those portable back up thingys with a screen any good?

I use an archos unit with a screen and a 100Gb HD. I really like it. The only problem is that is does not display RAW files - not a problem if you also carry a laptop.

You can buy portable video units that will display RAW - take a look on Amazon. TBH tho I only really use mine for backing up and I use the screen to make sure that everything is ok with the file.

With 100Gb it easily gobbled up all my RAW files from 3 weeks in Indonesia. File transfer was very quick too courtesy of the integrated CF slot.

I think I'd mainly want to be using one for back up (when not carrying a laptop) and review to see if I'd managed to shoot anything good! I guess RAW wouldn't be essential as I will probably be shooting in Raw and jpg.

Are there any with CF AND SD slots? The D80 (when I get my hands on it) is SD but my currently little choused compact is CF

Thanks,

Simon

Yes sorry but I got sidelined with other things. So it was taking 1 min to tranfare 8 JPEG shots so not too bad. I copied 80 in just over 10 mins, My Camera is 8 megapixel using the HQ 3264 x 2448 setting. I was able to see the pics on the IPOD and review them but not able to delete.

You can transfare RAW but not view them. it seemed to be taking twice as lomg per pic but will do some more to get an average.

So far pretty happy with it and the tranfare times do not seem bad. Time will tell

With Raw I did ten photos in 3mins 20secs, so 20 secounds per pic which is no to bad at all.
