NK Sealand - netherlands

I did try to compete in the dutch uw photo championship (rules raw is allowed, but only white balance, sharpness and contrast) unfortunately i was sick at the second sunday of the competition. As the conditions where poor the first sunday, i didnt do any wide angle.

Here are the macro and fish portrait shots... normally i would use curves, levels and the occasional dust removal to spice them a bit up some more.....comments welcome.....

Gerard,
I like the first shot - my sort of photo. The one thing that is distracting is the sandy patch to the left of the photo. Maybe a tighter crop or getting closer would have helped. The sharpness in the second shot looks perfect. The white patches on the rock seem to distract though. Shame the fish wasn't in a position where you could have had a perfect black or green background. I appreciate that at times fish aren't in ideal positions and you can only work with what you have.

I like the anenome shot although it's a shame it doesn't stand out from the background a bit more. It's a nice shot of a scorpion fish but the background, particulary those white spots, is very distracting.

lovely anemone shot try cropping it a bit more to get rid of the sandy bit but you may find it doesnt work. The fish is nice but as the others have said the white bits are distracting the worst one is the one in front of his nose (not underneath) if you crop this out to give a squarer picture it may work

thanks for the comments guys. Cropping was one of the things not allowed as well, as is cloning. But for my own use, i could try these improvements in post...

It is a shanny by the way. very shallow, and moving quite often (but also returning to the same stone quite often)
