CCR and Photography and the Pelagian
As yet I have not taken my CCR with my camera. I have completed over 50 hours on my classic Inspiration, while I like it and now trust it I am not confident in the fact that I will watch the handsets enough while taking pictures. A HUD would solve this problem, but that's more money. Units like the KISS would partially cure this problem as it has a steady flow of Oxygen to maintain your PPO, you just keep an eye on it to make sure it is.
Yesterday I took a Pelagian on a test dive. The Pelagian is a manul CCR, it has an adjustable valve so you can set the oxygen flow to your metabolic rate. Once set you just keep an eye on the PPO and adjust as necessary, it took a few minutes to get it sussed then I didn't have to touch it until I got shallower. It's small and compact, I didn't try it, but I reckon it would fit in hand luggage!! Sat next to my Inspo it was about 2/3 the size even with 5L cylinders attached. Operation was simple and effective, if I was in the market for a CCR I would definately be looking at one. In fact if I had the money I would buy one now. The Inspo is too big to take on holiday, this isn't. First impressions is that it is a step back in technology compared to the Inspo, but it is simple and therefore there is less likely to go wrong. I didn't take it deep, it was on a shore dive, 4.7m max, buoyancy wasn't a problem. Any questions, I will try and answer, but personally I think this would be far more reliable and safer for photography. |
