Just joined up after being pointed to the site by tdpriest over at wetpixel.

I'm pretty new to diving, my first experience was at Taba Heights, Egypt in 2008 where I did the Discover Scuba Diving course.

I wanted to do some more diving on this years holiday to Sharm, so I completed my Open Water in April at Stoney Cove. In Sharm I managed 6 dives, 5 whilst doing my Advanced Open Water.

I bought a camera and housing and took it on 2 dives during my AOW course. I had mixed results and have been learning from my mistakes by getting advice. I had alot more success whilst snorkeling.

I'm hoping to get along to the EMUP meetings when they start and look forward to learning from people with more experience.

BSOUP Best of British Portfolio

There is a change to the format of the BSoUP Best Of British Portfolio this year, which takes place in a couple of months at the October meeting. I thought I would post an early warning here - and I hope everyone will be entering.

The portfolio will now be a sequential 3 image portfolio, rather than the old simultaneous 6 image portfolio. It was felt that the old format was putting too much emphasis on the balance at the expense of decent photos. Many entrants were entering poorer images than their best shots because they balanced! So hopefully this new format will find the very best images and really promote the photographic potential of British waters.

I have spoken to many regular entrants about this during the year and everyone has be positive about the change (including Trevor Rees, who has dominated this competition in recent years).

There are no restrictions on the types of pictures. Just three great pictures taken in open waters (fresh or marine) in British waters. The audience will be encouraged to vote for the strongest set of three.

So that the competition runs in a reasonable time, only the best 10-12 portfolios will be shown on the night, so if we get significantly more than this they will be pre-judged (last year we had 12).

Anyway, there will be an official BSoUP announcement closer to the time. But i thought you'd like advanced warning.

Hi All,
Divers Down Swanage have set up a really good webcam under the pier, which as many of you probably know, you can view in the shop. They now have this webcam online now so you can check the vis out and decide what lens to put on before leaving your house! How considerate is that?!

Divers Down Swanage - Air, Nitrox, Training, Swanage Boat Charters, Kit Hire : Divers Down Swanage

At the moment the quality online isn't as good as the screen in the shop but it still gives you a really good idea of the vis.
HTH

Cheers

Following on from the suggestion on the other thread that there could be a 2nd DG outing in 2011, I thought I would start a thread to see what kind of interest there was and in doing what.

So if anyone's interested pop it on here and if there are any suggestions as to when and where pop it on here also. :)

Suggestions so far are:

(1) Lysekil in Sweden
(2) Marsa nakari with Oonas divers
(3) Hayah reef clean up with Blue O' Two
(4) Liveaboard on freedom VIII (to be got at a good price I'm told)

Any more for any more?

(Of course we might decide following Gozo that the bon hommie on the Valkyrie was a fluke and we can't stand each other any more. ;) :D)
