I just can't remember the last time I got my camera wet in the UK. I've been fortunate in that I have been getting plenty of dives this year but as a new DM I don't get the opportunity to take the camera. The experience I have gained through escorting dives and helping on courses has been invaluble so I am not complaining at all, it just means my photography has to go on hold for a while.

I would love constructive comments when I do finally get the camera out and get the flash position right. I had a holiday at the beginning of the year but wasn't really happy enough with any of the shots to post them.

Once I worked it out

Once I've worked out how to reduce my pictures to the size that digigreen needs easily and simply, I'll have some up for critique from my porthkerris trip... too much darn backscatter but I'll leave it up to you...

I use this batch utility programme to re-size and add a watermark Photo-Freeware.net - Visualizer Photo Resize Download

I then put the photos onto photobucket.com and use the IMG code it gives you to add to posts

As I am not an underwater photographer I do not feel I am qualified to be able to make any useful comments about peoples images but I do enjoy looking at what people are able to capture, and also enjoy showing my non diving friends and family what marine life we have in UK waters.

Hi Rob

I just logged on and noticed that I haven't logged in since 13th May! EEk
Well I have been really busy with both work and diving and haven't had time to post much.

Also I had a bit of "thing" with my diving late last year and earlier this year, lost my confidence in few things and ended up thinking that I was going to give up UK diving. I then decide to try spending quite a few dives where I just dived and didn't take the camera to reduce my own task loading. I had sort of decided that I would just do the trips i had already booked on and see how I felt.

I have been on some amazing trip this year and had stunning weather and have now started enjoying my diving and taking pictures more prolifically again. I have spent the past week tarting up my Sipadan pictures and framing them, now all on the wall in my newly decorated living room! but two weeks ago I took some pictures on U90 and they all came out like a black cat in coal cellar and iwas going to post on here to ask if they are recoverable?

I will try to look through the pics i have taken and post some and also try and log in more often than once a quarter!

I have angsting about buying a strobe and which one and whether i ought to invest in a future proof one in case i did go the DSLR route and what to buy.... going round in circles.

I decided today that
a) I am not going to buy a DSLR and housing and take it underwater
b) I was going to london for a meeting and so allowed an extra two hours to get to camerasunderwater to talk to them about strobes for compacts
c) said sod it and bought one, how long do I put off getting something that will help me enjoy my hobby more? anyway we get out bonus this month!

So from now on you can expect lots of muppet strobe questions from me.

Jules

My excuse is that I've been busy. Not dived as much as normal, but I have been teaching a bit and running the rib. Weather has been appalling so went kayaking today.

Trying to find things to take pics of too, need some inspiration.

I use www.faststone.org which does a nice easy job of batch resizing etc and is also a remarkably fast image viewer too.

Oh and as for not posting for a long time was finishing off my DM (so not carrying a camera around in the water obviously) earlier this year before I had an operation which took 3 months to recover from. So just getting back in the water now. Next job...taking the camera back in the water
