At present I dont use a software package, can anyone reccommend a good one + why ?

White dots.

Nice pics Dave, especially the Lions Mane.

The white stuff is plankton? It's going to be difficult to remove to be honest and I'm not sure how best to do it. Dave Crampton may have some ideas for photoshop.

As for packages, there is the Photoshop range (PS 7, Elements or, if you have the money, CS) or Paint Shop Pro. A free package is The GIMP which has all the tools you'll find in some of the ore expensive software. Also Picassa which is ok for simple stuff and file viewing.

White dots.

I used photoshop cs2
There is a tool in it called the heal tool. This can clean up "white spots" to some degree.
