Gortein Point - Loch Fyne

Hello.
Some more pics. These are from Gortein Point at Loch Fyne on Saturday.

Dogfish F3.1 1/80 ISO100 with strobe. Depth ~13m

Edible Crab with small fish. F3.1 1/80 ISO100 with strobe. Depth ~7m

Spiny Starfish. F3.1 1/80 ISO100 with strobe. Depth ~7m

Enhanced the colours on the starfish. Auto leveled the dogfish and added some more red and blue. Crab was auto leveled but didn't really make any difference. Taken some backscatter out of the dark areas of the crap photo as well.

My mate had finned over the dogfish after he had taken his pics and left him covered in sand but the current was enough to whisk away the cloud he had kicked up before my very eyes

Nice pics. Interesting colours on the spiny sea star, havnt seen one like that. They do come in so many colour variations around the country.

Very nice - the starfish has some great coloration.

If I may make a suggestion, the composition on the dogfish is good with the sweep of it's body but it would be worth trying to get even lower on the dogfish to get at eye level. It helps to add real interest to the photo.

Thanks for sharing.

Tim

If you combine the low-angle of the Dogfish from your other post with the lighting from this post it would be a cracking shot.

The starfish is nice and simple. I think if its long legs were full corner to corner this might add a bit of symmetry to the photo.

The crab photo is a nice pose, especially with the small fish in the photo.

Good to see people are diving!!

I love the dogfish and agree, it would be even more stunning if shot from lower down.

However - I'm really confused! How come using F3.1 there is so much of the photo in focus? My lens will give me a much smaller DOF at 3.1

Compact camera. Smaller CCD apparently gives a better DOF (if I remember the techie bit correctly )

Good point on the Dogfish pic. I'll need to remember to get lower down next time. The pic from the previous post had the advantage of being on a slope so I could get to eye level without hitting the bottom and kicking up a cloud.

The small fish in the crab pic could have had the common decency to swin in lower down the shot. Never work with children or animals

Hi Tazzie

CCD is a Charge-coupled device. Its the sensor in the camera that captures the image. (The digital film if you like)

Compact cameras use smaller ones (physical size) to DSLRs and this coupled with the smaller lenses helps give a better DOF (Diver Mag. Sept '07. Pg 74)
