First green water outing

Been meaning to post some of my green water pictures, but just never got round to it! Here's a few from Stoney Cove, earlier this year.

The rest of the set are to be found here:

These are really clear and sharp. Well done. The Nautilus is the pick although the plane is also a lovely shot.

What are you using?

If I were to make one comment then it would be to tell your buddy not to look at the camera. The shot with plane and buddy becomes a bit of a "and this is us at the plane..." whereas there is a great potential to have him appear to explore the wreck and create a real atmospheric shot. The same is true of the picture with your buddy looking through the hole. If he looks away from the camera then you appears to be exploring and adds atmosphere.

As I have said, well done on some technically good shots. Now just time to train your buddy.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for your comments. Of course you are right regarding the feel of the pictures. He's not used to being the subject & tends to play up to the camera as most people do!

I am currently using a Canon 5D in a Subal housing with a couple of Inon strobes. These shots were all taken with the Canon 17-40mm lens behind a big dome.

I don't take it underwater in this country too often as I don't trust myself to not smash it up on the boat but if I get some really good conditions I'm going to make the effort next year...

Hi Hamish,

I have to agree with Daniel - great, clean and nicely evenly lit shots - not easy in Stoney Cove.

Well done.

Tim

I'm jealous... very nice... but then again I'm stuck in Wraysbury where viz varies between 1m and -1m depending on how many Open water students have fallen off the platforms into the silt...

Robin

Do you know how to find the fish in Wraysbury? I know that there are rumoured to be pike and carp but I've never seen either (although to be fair I've not dived there for years)?

Finding Fish in Wraysbury

You can go and stare at the Pike in the bus... usually hangs around there and a great way to scare open water students

otherwise it's not like Wraysbury is fish central so they've all disappeared to the otherside of the lake where the open waters don't venture...

You can apparently find shrimp in the grass if you look closely... just don't kick up a cloud of silt

So would you say that there are any decent photo opportunities if you stay away from the OW student areas and head for the far side of the lake?

I just really need to try out my new arms before I head out to blue waters in mid October. Otherwise it looks like Swanage or Selsey.

I wouldn't go that far as I've not spent most of my time over on that part... but I think you've got a chance of better viz over there...

was down in swanage this last weekend and decided even though I've got 2 strobes now, not quite ready to use them. Am back down to Swanage for a pier dive on Sat 4th Oct for more playing with the Camera...
