natural light

Just been playing around with the natural light capabilities of the D2x when combined with the manual white balance and am wondering if anyone else is thinking of ditching their strobes? Here is a pic of a common subject, a spider crab shot in natural light - makes a very realistic shot I think?

Excellent shot. Love the colours.

What depth was this shot at?

Very interesting, and also rather hard to achieve on macro shots. Much easier on WA. Did you use any filters or simply use white balance to achieve neutral colours?

Talking Available/Natural Light

What a coincidence! I've just been trying out my EOS 5D in natural light using high ISO to test it's low noise performance. Wow, this camera is goooood. You can't beat Canon for low noise performance using their dedicated CMOS chip. Have a look at some photographing evidence!

These were all taken in natural light, in RAW + JPEG. Lens was a sigma 15mm f2.8 EX DG, Sea & Sea housing, Athena glass dome port. ISO 800 - 1600.

Some Black & White stuff - I've added a small amount of grain in photoshop!

I have some more photo's if anyone's interested or can be bothered!

My shot of the crab was shot at about 10 metres on a relatively sunny day. It was shot using a Nikon D2x with a 10.5mm full frame fisheye at 1/60s f5.6 at 400ASA. I only used the in camera white balance so no filters. I agree with jonny boy that the CMOS chip (also used in the D2x) gives excellent results. I have successfully used MWB down to 30 metres with amazing results, although you do start to run out of light at that depth.

I'm looking forward to some decent viz to try out MWB settings. My last few UK dives have been 0.5 -1m pea soupers, where the kelp creeps up on you totally from nowhere and smacks you in the face!
Love the pictures, can't wait to experiment for myself. I especially like the b/w one, somehow has so much more atmosphere...
