Re: Monthly Challenge - April 06

They're freshwater mussels and they're about the right size so I think they are zebra mussels.

Re: Monthly Challenge - April 06

Hope the zebras don't take over. We have them here in Lough Erne, and they are a curse, they cover every hard surface.
Hope some idiot didn't introduce them for the viz

It may, if such things interest you, be something worth looking out for over a 'period of time' !!!

Re: Monthly Challenge - April 06

I've got quite a few shots of both the zebras and sponges in Stoney. I'd bet a fair amount of money that the majority of people that have dived there have never noticed the sponges, there are quite a few in there. I'm still trying to get a decent zebra shot. I also bet most divers never stop and look at the mussels either, each to their own I suppose.

Bubblemaker you were correct, it is indeed a front wheel from a steam engine, taken on the St Chamond off St. Ives.

Re: Monthly Challenge - April 06

I expected the zebra mussels but not the sponge. From others comments maybe it wasn't such and unexpected find.

Interesting article bubblemaker. I wonder if we'll see the sponges decrease the number of mussels in Stoney.
