OMG! Another new Nikon DSLR

Well will it all end?

Nikon has just launched a new D40 which has been rumoured for a short while.

Details on http://www.dpreview.com/news/0611/06...sonpreview.asp

At the same time they've also launched a new lens (18-55mm) and a new speedlight (SB-400).

They have been productive little bunnies over at Nikon.

Tim

Re: OMG! Another new Nikon DSLR

Yes, they're catching up with the Canon trend for some unfathomable reason

The nikon d40 would appear as a cheap good quality camera up front ,but the sting is in the nikon lenses will take.

Compatibility with Tamron and Sigma Lenses to be confirmed.

compatible lenses.
Nikon F mount with AF coupling and AF contacts Type G or D AF Nikkor: 1) AF-S, AF-I: All functions supported; 2) Other Type G or D AF Nikkor: All functions supported except autofocus; 3) PC Micro-Nikkor 85mm f/2.8D: Can only be used in mode M; all other functions supported except autofocus; 4) Other AF Nikkor*1/AI-P Nikkor: All functions supported except autofocus and 3D Color Matrix Metering II; 5) Non-CPU: Can be used in mode M, but exposure meter does not function; electronic range finder can be used if maximum aperture is f/5.6 or faster; 6) IX Nikkor lenses cannot be used
*1. Excluding lenses for F3AF

would say more interested in the canon 400D or nikon d80

looks like the d40 being replaced with d40x with couple of tweeks + optional 18mm-200mm special lense.

I do have to wonder when the next series will be announced. Maybe a D200x? Something with automatic sensor cleaning would be very nice and this is one of my biggest gripes to date.

I thought the same Tim. I was very disappointed when I read this report and wonder if automatic sensor cleaning is worth worrying about.
