Farnes in October

Definitely the time of year to go. Saw seals on every dive this weekend. Last year in November we saw none underwater. In previous years we've had one or two dives over the weekend when the seals have been in a playfull mood but this year they were there even on dives when we didn't expect to see them.

Great stuff. I'm now really gutted that I didn't have the camera on the dive we saw the seals (what with the flood and all.).

Do I detect a mix of flash-lit and ambient light pictures?

Re: Farnes in October

You do indeed. I had the flash on in every shot. Most were shot at 1/30 and apertures to try to balance flash and ambient light. I did look at using the Program mode but the shutter speeds were too slow. The exif info is in the files.

I'd have been gutted if I didn't have my camera. This was my best trip yet for the seals.

Re: Farnes in October

Thanks for the kind comments.

Pixie don't give up yet. I think your seal pictures are lacking contrast more than anything else. Best place to deal with this is in the PS RAW convertor. Try upping the shadow slider and the contrast slider. Convert with 16 bits/channel and you can make further adjustment in levels. Convert the mode to 8 bit before printing.
