Interesting Colour Editing Tips

I found this whilst surfing and after a quick play decided it was an interesting enough technique to share as initial results on some on my photos were good.

Workflow Technique #081 @Digital Outback Photo

have a play and post your results.

I'll post some soon.

Tim

The second of each these uses the technique above using the Lab mode.

I've opened the RAW's auto levels in RGB - convert to Lab and moved the curves, convert back to RGB and resize, unsharp mask and save as jpg. The first of each is different in that the curves were tweaked in RGB.

Quite a difference.

I'm not sure I like it. The colours in your original shots look more natural. But then there's always the problems of how different monitors reproduce the images in different ways, so can't be sure I'm looking at the same thing as you.

This is definitely going to be one of those effects that doesn't work all the time. I'm on my laptop, but the snakelock really hasnt worked. I quite like what it has done to the eye close-up, but the first one looks a bit like a dodgy white balance. What does it do to images that are predominantly green or blue, as these are all rather red images?
Just my opinion,
Rob
PS the D80 has some "enhancements" that can do similar sorts of results. I had the camera set to vivid jpeg, or it may have been extra vivid; it works well topside, but gives blues and greens a really nasty glow.
