Not strictly post production...

I wonder if anyone can help? I would like to create a title, similar to Alan James' website title by "cutting out" a photos into letters if that makes sense?

If not have a squizz here: Alan James - For all you need in underwater photography at what I am trying to explain!

Can anyone point me in the right director of how to achieve this? I have CS2 and Corel Draw packages along with basic Paint packages

Thanks in advance

I've done this in Photoshop

Select the T text tool

Right click the tool to select a type mask tool

Set a large point size, you can overtype to create larger sizes than the drop down allows.

Type the text you want then select layer, new layer and OK the dialogue box.

Then Layer merge down

You now have a selection in the shape of your typing which you can cut or copy and then paste.

You can distort the text and compress the distance between letter using the text tools on the toolbar. I haven't worked out how to make a selection with overlapping letters as Alan James has done. If I get there I'll post again.

Arrrgghhhh I've got it to the stage of cutting the text, how can i paste that into a new document? I don't seem to be able to open a new "page" in Photoshop and it's telling me it's too big to paste into Coreldraw

I've worked out kind of how to get the text over lapping;

Toggle the text and paragraph tool (think that means bring it up )

On the AV with the arrow underneath it choice go to a minus figure

This seems to squish the text together

I pasted it over a white rectangle... I thinkt here is probably a better way than that but it's kind of what i want!

You worked out how to create a new page OK. I think I had that problem for a while but I can't remember what it was that cleared it. I can't recreate the problem now.

I like the result you've produced, it's an ideal subject for this technique. I'm going to gave to try this for titling slide shows.

After I've done the cut I go to file new which creates a new blank file. The size is preset to match the clipboard so I just OK it then paste in the cutout.
