Setting white balance

I use a Canon Powershot s70 and have been using it on Auto White Balance and tidying up the photo in Elements afterwards. I've recently tried to set the white balance underwater and haven't been too impressed with the results.

Here's one picture and you can see the overcompensation in the red - makes the photo look like it's been photoshopped already but i haven't done anything with it!

I was doing a shallow shore dive (depth of about 11m max) and set the white balance about 5m and 10m. Does anyone have any tips on how to get better shots using the setting white balance function.

I'm surprised it didn't work better than that, what did you use to set the WB?

I find that shooting RAW and correcting the WB in the Adobe Raw Convertor works better than setting WB underwater. I believe your camera has a RAW mode but don't know what using it would do to the cameras speed or your storage capacity.

I always set the white balance at any change of depth before I take a picture, be it 1m different. I use the water surface for setting the colour balance, which is not technically correct but I found it works well.
