Thumbs up Inon 45 deg Viewfinder

From the first moment I looked through the standard Sea and Sea viewfinder with a mask on I was concerned at how small the image was.

I thought that it could prove to be a problem, and to some extent is has been.
I have to move my eye relative to the viewfinder to see the information display, also it's difficult to see the point of focus.

Well, I've just received my new Inon 45 deg viewfinder.

I've not yet fitted it to the housing, but straight away i can see that it is going to be a massive improvement.
It's a magnifying viewfinder rather than reducing (0.6 x) viewfinder as fitted by Sea and Sea.

Nice...

I'm sure all of us with failing eyesight and Sea & Sea housings would be very interested to know how easy this is to fit (and did it leak!) and how well it works.

Thumbs up Fitted!

Well, I fitted the viewfinder last night.
It's very easy to do.

Just a matter of unscrewing the original, unscrewing a locking collar and pushing out the viewfinders holder.

Then inserting the Inon viewfinder and screw on its locking ring.

First off, this viewfinder is really good. It's a massive improvement on the original Sea and Sea one.

The view through the viewfinder with a mask on is the same as putting your eye to the camera's viewfinder!

I took it in the pool last night, no leaks... The Inon viewfinder has double o-rings on it, whilst the original is a single o-ring.

It might take a little while to get used to the 45 deg, but Inon do make a straight one too.

The only issue I had is the length of the delete button on the DX80 housing prevents the viewfinder rotating to the right. The viewfinder is designed rotate through 360 degrees, indexing every 90.

What I've done today is remove the button, and cut about 4mm off the end of it to give clearance for full 360 degrees movement, however I'm sure lots of DX80 owners would be happy with the 270 with out this slight mod. If your normal portrait orientation is right hand down it's fine.

I'm very happy to have got this!!

Thanks for the update on fitting and using that viewfinder. That's another item on my wishlist!

I'd be a little worried about fiddling with my delete button. But then again it's probably worn down all by itself!
