Yes. If I remember I'll bring some down me with tomorrow although you'll need a sealable bag to stop it just taking the moisture from the air.

I usually put small packets of silica gel in my compact housing as much to reduce condensation as anything. In my Ikelite DSLR housing I place a sanitary napkin under the tray.

that's an unorthodox but ingenious solution... but does it work

A friend of mine uses these guys Scubasure Diving Insurance - Specialists in Sport Diving who don't seem to charge you any extra for camera equipment and she's been lucky enough to claim twice for two complete rig floods and been paid out.

Whether they'll review their policy for new users or not I'm not sure (just over cynical) but defo worth a call, I'll be doing exactly that when mine is up for renewal

I have, unfortunately, recent experience of claiming for a flood. My camera (Nikon D70) & housing (Ikelite) are covered under my general household insurance (i.e not a specified item). So far its been a very painless experience, all dealt with over the phone.

I was given the option of either replacement gear or market value. Having had a bad experience with a written-off motorbike many years ago, I initially chose replacement gear. This was then passed to a third party company who specialise in providing replacements for insurance companies, another couple of phone calls established that underwater housings are slightly beyond their scope , so I have been given replacement market value (for a D80 as the D70 is discontinued), less my excess. No quibbling, no attempts to beat me down on value, all done within 48 hours. Money should be in my account in the next day or so.

My insurers are Hiscox, and I'm very pleased with them.

cheers,
Paul

PS Anybody got an ikelite D80 housing for sale?

I actually used them to provide evidence of value, (and if I can't find a 2nd hand one soon, will be placing a call). I was kicking myself when I saw this later on: http://www.divelife.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=1395
