Ikelite Dual Sync Cable

Any one use an Ikelite dual sync cable? Dont like the junction box, looks vulnerable, so where do people place/secure them?

Well: no way experienced (in my film setup I used a single strobe) But this is how my current brand-second hand-new looks like.

I struggled with it as well, and this is my design...

From the housing, I loop the cord around the bottom screw. I use the coiled cord to keep it a bit tight.
The box hangs a bit, but it is very sturdy, I would be more worried about the cords going into them. Thats why i used some electric tape to stifen the joints.

I dit one dive it, no problems ( I only used the wrong lens for the situation... not really a wide angle buff yet, and the conditions were not good enough for it to be easy....

Hi there.

I use the double synch cord and the junction box is no problem at all - the biggest issue is the cable flexing and bending where it comes out of the housing connector. I've found that the internal cores break after a while as the cable tends to bend quite sharply - it is possible to repair the cord, but overall the synch cable remains the least reliable part of the set-up.

Oops, nearly forgot - it is possible to secure the cord to the housing handles to stop it moving, but then it's hard to get the back of the housing off to change battery and memory card, so in the end I just let mine dangle!

Seem to be having problems with the dual sync cord. Has anybody any ideas? The following are the problems:

Now with the light and motion roc unit, you place the sync cord into the nikonos connector, roc light will go green when strobes powered up and then flash red to show when no strobes powered up!!.

My next stage is to fire the camera in ttl. The DS51 strobe seems to fire at higher power and slighty faster, were as my DS50 fires at a slighty slower speed and lower power!!.
Turning the cable around makes no difference, still seems the DS51/DS50 fire the same, as above. That points to the DS50 being weaker than the DS51, or could the DS50 strobe knackered?

I keep going round in circles, as disconnecting both strobes, the roc light flashes red getting dimmer and locks up so looks like a short in the cable.
I then remove the nikonos connection and roc unit clears.

Have tried going through the ikelite test bit, link below.
SYNC WIRING

My thinking is the ttl wiring in the dual sync cord could possibly be knackered.

Anybody any ideas ? or would a trip to Mr James be the best bet?

Simon.

The problem looks like the DS50.
Has an internal intermittent fault with TTL and needs to go back to ikelite.

so would appear not to be the dual sync cord. And that the strobe is causing a memory effect with the camera housing electronics.

Interestingly when using the manual e.v controller, the fault seems to be reduced. And i can go with manual on one strobe, and TTL on the other.

Mike,

My dual sync cord has just failed. (And it was on a double dive with 6-7 sharks - )

Ikelite say they won't repair it. I will buy a second one, but I'm wondering if you repaired yours yourself, and if so, how you went about it.

Michel,

Here: Ikelite Dual Sync Cable - Wetpixel :: Underwater Photography Forums

I have got mine apart and removed the broken part but haven't had a chance to put it back together. I am confident about everything except ensuring it is fully sealed, with no real way to test it.
